Hi, sorry i just read this. I would like to ask for your assistance. My sister is jobless and his husband is an OFW in the middle east who just lost his job. Their eldest son was diagnosed with Autism. He just graduated from High School and we were very anxious to get him to college but we do not know where to take him because we are afraid of bullying and he might not cope up with his classmates. He is starting to feel alone and envies his classmates with GF. I wonder if you can help us get a better school and how to make him feel better with minimal fee. Thank you.

ella, im not sure the diagnostics of your brother. but if he is 8 and has been to 3 schools, it because ADHD people develop late.

i think its gets better from there.

I couldnt read till age 7. and I had a hard time writing notes.

I had to repeat grade 1 and took tutorials the following year.

i think, at most cases ADHD students can remain in regular schools but best you choose one with small number of students, and with less pressure to excel. learning can be very slow for us.

I understand SPED schools can be expensive. I think its best an ADHD get moral support, and better if you are with your child in a normal school.

He is going thru great stress, and if u are with him by his side - he will be able to cope better.

I think an ADHD person can cope in life, given that he chooses a job / nature of work in which he can work around with.

He may be good with work which are not confined in the office.

I am in sales, and I like it.
Sometimes im also a designer.

I have 3 professions, and many interests. :) and I do intend to
continue having 3 professions
for a long time.

i love that I am able to shift
in all three professions.

another thing ADHD may want to explore is to take alternative ways to treat ADHD.

Aside from getting constant movement or excercise, ADHD patients may also try
listening skills by tuning the brainwaves
to correct state.

I suggest you researched at the brainwaves, GAMMA, BETA, ALPHA, DELTA and THELTA.

From my research, normal people's brainwaves are tuned at BETA, while ADHD patients are tuned in ALPHA-DELTA.

Listening to these tunes can help achieve concentration and focus.

It is also inexpensive treatment as compared to medicines.

I was able to download my music thru IPOD aplication.

type: brainwaves.

I hope ADHD can be treated in public schools thru the listening method, and
with giving students additional care and sensitivity.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at 27,
with a very high score for inattentiveness 8/9.

I went to a exclusive girls school and
finished at a university. I must agree, that although I am intelligent with above average iq, it was very hard to be at school, especially in the developmental ages from 4-7. I had very bad tantrums, fears, anxieties and anger when i was a little child, and strong in attentiveness from grade school to high school.

During exams, the maximum time I could concentrate in studying was 1 hour, and had a very low absorption on the matter.

Effectivity of learning these subjects were so low because although it was not obvious, my mind was wandering constantly- day dreaming. Ideas galore entering my head.

In college, I had some painc attacks and the constant feeling of being overwhelmed on tasks at hand.

When I was 27 years old I notice when I couldnt cope in such a controlled and strict environment, such as the office workplace making "charts". My attention span was so bad that I had to do everything four times spending a lot of time rechecking everything and still not getting it right. I did not understand what was wrong with me and why I had so many mistakes, and why I couldnt pull it together when it was suppose to be such an easy task. i caught myself in a weird pattern of staring at the computer, looking at the file, look elsewhere- forget the number, forget the system - back to the computer, back to the file- in a pattern which I couldnt put anything together. I was so unhappy especially because I had low self-esteem on what I could achieve as a person.

It seems that if i am not interested in a subject, and it requires too many details I automatically shift attention. it is very very hard to comprehend things that are not personally interesting esp. abiding by rules in such a strict environment. Attention shifts automatically.

After noticing this, my mom decided that I see a councilor. My complain was that I couldnt put anything together, and I was breaking down...

My psychologist gave me the greatest advice to focus on the things Im good at, and to accept that I am wired differently and that I should.

Its true there are many things that I am good at given the correct environment and with occasional help.

My advice is, that if your child has adhd and fears or worries, address them and be patient because "we" tend to be in a loop - and have a tendency to interconnect things with either negativity or possitivity.

I tell you there are many things an ADHD can be good at, this is because of his/her ability of inattentiveness and hyperfocusing on the things he or she may be interested at.

Please find the things that your kid is interested with, and develop his intelligence with his interests. You will learn that he learns in a progressive manner, but not in the usual method of books and memorization.

February 20, 2011 / April 3, 2011
Children with learning disabilities (e.g. dyslexia) can be a challenge for any classroom teacher. By applying through effective interventions, a teacher will learn to use strategies that are suited to a specific child in a specific environment.

THE ABC’s OF CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
(With Special Topic on Classroom Management in SPED)
February 27, 2011 / April 10, 2011 / May 15, 2011
Some things just aren’t as simple as ABC----and classroom management is one of those. Most teachers, whether they have two days or 20 years of teaching experience, would say that managing a classroom is one of the most challenging aspects of teaching. Though experience hones skills, each group of students is unique and may respond differently to strategies that worked well previously. For this reason, teachers must acquire a broad repertoire of strategies to draw upon when developing classroom expectations and managing student behaviours.

Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorders
March 6, 2011 / April 17, 2011
This seminar-workshop will focus on understanding autism spectrum disorders from diagnosis through adulthood. The condition of autism spectrum disorder reflects a range of diversity and severity, which will be examined in this seminar-workshop. Three major characteristics of autism spectrum disorder will be examined: communication impairment, impaired social interactions, and behavioural abnormalities. Medical and scientific research, which supports our current understanding of the spectrum disorders, will be the basis for workshop discussions.

Strategies for Dealing with Emotional and Behavioural Disorder
May 8, 2011
Behavioural disorders become apparent when the student displays a repetitive and impact persistent pattern of behaviour that results in the significant disruption in other students. Such disturbances may cause significant impairments in academic, social, and or occupational functioning. Such a behaviour pattern is consistent throughout the individual’s life. This seminar-workshop will provide strategies to assist and provide support to parents and teachers involved with behaviour issues that are causing some concerns both at home and or at school.

Day 1 - Applied Behavior Analysis
Day 2 – Writing SMART IEP
Day 3 – Picture Exchange Communication Symbols (PECS)
Day 4 - Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communication Handicapped Children

Your ongoing efforts to value children as individuals and embrace their unique contributions to the classroom community can inspire in them a love of learning that will last a lifetime. Children learn best when they are actively involved with materials and with others. Set up the proper learning environment and build positive, meaningful relationships with children and their families.

is there a group for college instructors handling "intro to sped" as part of the curriculum for education students majoring in preschools/early childhood education? i would like to join one. i believe that our simple efforts play a significant role in giving initial input knowledge and proper attitude to early childhood educators who are likely to have diagnosed/undiagnosed differently-abled learners in their classes as well as in spurring their interests to focus on sped as a career later on.
